The Week That Was: March 21-27

A look back at some of the stories you may have missed this week on Montgomery Patch.

Montgomery Patch, week six! It’s been crazy here at Patch Election Central. This week we posted in-depth Q&As with the seven candidates for Montgomery Village Board, which drew most of the attention and comments. But other things made their way to the site this week too, so here’s a look at a few things you may have missed.

1. Friends and family of Auroran Joe Berenyi for him at Elmer’s Doghouse, hoping to send him to training in California for the Paralympics. Berenyi lost his right arm and left kneecap in a construction accident in 1994.

2. Sen. Dick Durbin on Wednesday to protest planned funding cuts to early childhood education, including Head Start programs. While at Two Rivers Head Start, he read a book to young students, and we have video of that as well.

3. Montgomery’s population may have more than tripled in the past 10 years, but the per capita cost of providing services to those residents has , according to Village Manager Anne Marie Gaura.

4. Author Jo Fredell Higgins brought us a profile of , who has lived in Montgomery for eight decades. She has an interesting perspective on where the village has been, and why she loves living here.
