Relay for Life Stepping Off Saturday

The overnight event, which encompasses Montgomery, Oswego and Yorkville raises money for cancer research and cancer patients and helps spread awareness.

Saturday into Sunday hundreds will be walking in the fight against cancer.

The annual Relay for Life for the communities of Oswego, Yorkville and Montgomery will be held at Oswego High School, 4250 Route 71, Oswego, starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 9 and ending at 6 a.m. Sunday.

The objective of Relay for Life is to raise money for cancer research and cancer patients, spread cancer awareness, celebrate the lives of survivors, and remember those who lost their lives to cancer.

According to a release from the American Cancer Society, 334 individuals and 42 teams have registered as of June 5 and a total of $52,000 has been raised.

"Beginning in May 2013, the American Cancer Society celebrates 100 years of saving lives from cancer and creating a world with more birthdays. It’s the progress we’ve made together – as a community, as volunteers, as survivors and as leaders – that has helped us reach this incredible milestone with tremendous success,” said Meghan Goldbeck, American Cancer Society event organizer in a release.

“By lending your support to Oswego/Montgomery/Yorkville’s Relay this year, you’ll be lending your support to the Society’s efforts to finish the fight and bring an end to cancer as we know it.”

The Relay goes all evening with a full schedule planned for all those walking and supporting.
