My Patch Resolutions for 2012

Here's what your faithful editor would like to see Montgomery Patch accomplish in the new year.

It’s 2012. A brand new year dawns before us, and it’s time to start making promises to ourselves, ones we hope to keep. Yesterday, I asked you for yours, so it’s only fair that I share mine. Here are some things I hope to accomplish with Montgomery Patch next year.

1. Get more involved in the community. I live in Montgomery, but so far, I haven’t been as involved with the village as I’d like. My schedule, and a sense of journalistic detachment have kept me from taking the plunge, but I feel like Patch is a different kind of thing, and the more enmeshed in the community I am, the better. Which is good, because I want to be part of what’s going on. So count me in for 2012.

2. Find out what our churches are up to. If there’s one area Patch has been sorely lacking in, it’s this. For a while, faith columnist Carter Moss was tackling all things religious for me, but for budgetary reasons, that feature came to an end. We have a strong faith community in Montgomery, and I’d like to delve further into it, and perhaps make more people (including myself) aware of how our pastors and our congregations are contributing to our village.

3. Get more bloggers on Patch. Blogging is easy. Even if you don’t think you can be a blogger, even if you’ve never blogged before, you can do this. If you have an interest, or if you’re particularly excited about something happening around town, I’d like to hear from you. I’m hoping for sports and entertainment bloggers, but anything can be the subject of a good blog. If you have an idea, let me know and I’ll set you up.

4. Find and support more local businesses. Marissa Amoni's column has been wonderful for me—she's introduced me to local businesses I may never have found on my own. If there's something you need, chances are someone in the Montgomery area is making it or selling it, and I want to do a better job of both highlighting those businesses here on Patch, and supporting them with my own money in 2012.

5. Tell more of your stories, and tell them better. This has been my personal resolution for as long as I’ve been in this business. I love telling stories, and I love meeting people with stories to tell. That’s what I want Montgomery Patch to be—a place where we can share stories about how we’re all coping with and celebrating life. So if you share your stories with me, I resolve to tell them to the best of my ability. I tried to do that in 2011, and I’ll keep on trying in 2012.

Share your own resolutions for 2012 . Happy new year, everyone, and thanks for reading.
