Montgomery Church Invites You to Worship Online

Community Christian Church has launched a new feature - broadcasting their services online, for those who can't make it on Sundays.

These days, people live their lives online. The Internet is becoming the tool of choice for busy people who still want to connect with others—they talk, buy things, and join groups online, meeting people that time and distance may have kept them from.

And now, they can experience what it’s like to go to church in Montgomery, without leaving their homes.

Community Christian Church has just launched a new program it calls Community Online. Through its website at www.communitychristian.org, you can now watch church services as they happen at the church’s Montgomery campus, at 131 Montgomery Road.

And according to Pastor Carter Moss, you’ll be able to watch those services whenever you want, and eventually arrange the components of those services—songs, sermons, Communion—in any order you want. It’s like TiVo for church, with a personalized edge, and Moss believes it’s the first of its kind in the area.

Moss said he sees this as a way of fulfilling the church’s mission: to help people find their way back to God.

“There are many people who either geographically can’t get here (for services) or don’t want to step foot in a church, for whatever reason,” Moss said.

His hope for this new technology is that people will design their own church services, invite their friends (perhaps on Facebook) and have online discussions afterward. He sees it as a great tool for organizing small groups outside of the regular church services.

If you have your own bread and wine (or juice), you can even take Communion online, Moss said.

Community Online launched last Sunday, so Moss hasn’t heard a lot of feedback on it yet. But he’s interested to see how many people this can reach.

Community Christian is a multi-site non-denominational church with houses of worship in 12 Chicagoland communities. The Montgomery campus (where Community Online is filmed) welcomes about 400 worshippers each Sunday, Moss said.

And the church is no stranger to the Internet as an outreach tool. Earlier this year, Community Christian a video parodying Rebecca Black’s YouTube sensation “Friday.”

Community Christian services begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 9:30 and 11 a.m. on Sunday. For more information, log onto their website, or call 630-897-9090.
