Chapala Tacos is one of the only Mexican restaurants in Montgomery. And it's the real deal.

Nelida Mejia stands behind the counter taking orders and preparing food. Mejia's son, Sal Aceves, 29, of Montgomery, owns the restaurant. Mejia, of Sheridan, works for her son full-time. She says her son has owned Chapala Tacos for about 10 years.
Several large menu boards hang over Mejia as she gestures, saying that everything is popular at the restaurant.

Chapala Tacos serves up standard Mexican fare—Mejia is from Jalisco, Mexico and emigrated to the U.S. in 1977 before Sal was born—as well as several selections that are labeled "North of the Border," like hot dogs, hamburgers, gyros and sandwiches.
Erich Franks, who was dining with his family this week, said it was the $1 tacos that enticed him to stop in not too long ago. Franks has been back to the restaurant several times with his wife, Charlene. Today was the first time the Montgomery couple had taken their two girls along.
"It's close to home," Franks said. "And it's good."
Chapala Tacos offers daily specials along with dinner plates, like the spicy Carne India and Milanese plate. They also have a nice selection of appetizers that isn't standard fare at a Mexican restaurant.
Daily specials are priced at around $5.50. A dinner with a drink is easily under $10.
