Traditionally, Norwegians hide a whole almond in a riskem bowl just before serving on Christmas eve. The finder receives a marzipan candy pig with a bright red bow.

Julenisse, the Norwegian version of a Christmas elf, will deliver gifts to children.

Norwegian Christmas songs scheduled for group singing include "O jul med din glede," a favorite of young children as they clap and hold hands to march around the tree. Other songs planned are “Glade jul,” “Silent Night” and “Deilig er Jorden.”

Barb Johnson of Yorkville, church cultural director, said “Juletrefest is devoted to our children and grandchildren.”
