You can look up your bill in Will County as well www.willcountytaxbill.com/. Again this year my assessed value went down on my property but my 1.56% increase raised my taxes $1000 from last year. This is really getting out of control. If they raise it like this yet again next year I will officially pay more in taxes each month then I pay on my mortgage.   more ›

ELECTION 2013: Voter Turnout in Kendall, Kane, Will Counties

Kendall had a four year local election low in voting turnout for the April 2013 election.

On Tuesday, 11.52 percent of voters made it out to the polls in Kendall County to vote in this year's election, according to the Kendall County Clerk's website.  That turnout is the lowest in the last four local elections in Kendall County, down about 5 percent from the April 2011 election. Kendall County had the lowest turnout for this year's election compared to other surrounding counties. Comparably speaking, during last fall's presidential election, 69.04 percent of registered voters made it to the polls in Kendall County.  Here is how other area counties compared:

The results are sad, considering that we're all Americans with great freedoms and a civic duty to vote for our elected officials. This has nothing to do with the amount of taxes we pay.   more ›

Letter: Randy Hultgren Has No Credibility

Send your letters to the editor to natalie.stevens@patch.com.

Ever since his election as our congressman of the 14th congressional district in Illinois, it is safe to say that Randy Hultgren has never agreed with President Obama.  One can make the argument that Randy has very little respect for the president.  You can make this conclusion by reading the various statements on Randy’s official web site under his press release section.  One area that Randy has always had a strong disagreement with the President on is his fiscal policies as it relates to government spending and tax policy.  Most recently Randy stated in February 2013 after the State of the Union that President Obama has “no credibility” when it comes deficit reduction.  Randy has made every attempt to repeal Obamacare on March 26, 2012, …

No Changes at Oswegoland Park Board, One New Face at Library Board

Roy White holds onto position as park board commissioner and Craig Weber joins the library board.

The Oswegoland Park District board and Oswego Library board unofficial votes are in. Roy White, an incumbent for the Oswegoland Park board, held onto his seat and beat out newcomer Alvin P. "Phil" Smith for a six-year term. Over on the Library side, all three incumbents running -- Terry Tamblyn, Vernita Hettrich and Kandi Ream -- kept their seats. They are joined by newcomer Craig Weber, who previously served on the library board and has worked over 35 years in Education as a reading specialist and learning center director. Newcomer Evelyn Givens, sports editor for the Kendall Weekly Times, did not garner enough votes. View all of the final vote totals for all Oswego races here. ----- Read:

Thank god the voters took the time to choose wisely!!! We've all read the MANY, MANY "holier than thou" posts from Greg Nelson and we can only hope that his 7th place finish, and incredibly low vote count, will demonstrate that his views are not held in very high regard. He's not a watchdog, he just always needs someone or something to complain about. My opinion is that Bill Keck lost his race …   more ›

After checking the ordinance as I suspected the signs are not illegally posted. I also believe that since it is rather windy that in the last several weeks that the signs were simply blown away. I doubt any of the candidates are capable of such juvenile behavior. Or at least one would hope.   more ›
