Taurid Meteor Shower to Peak Nov. 12

Look to the skies for some stunning light displays this November and December.

As you hang holiday lights and light holiday candles, cast your gaze upon the universe's natural fireworks, as well.  A thin crescent moon in 2012 will provide for dark nights and early morning light to enhance this year's North Taurid meteor shower display that peaks early Monday, Nov. 12, according to EarthSky.org. To see the showers, look for the moon and Venus in the east. On Nov. 12, the moon will be below Venus, next to Saturn, according to EarthSky. Space.com reports the best time to see the Taurid meteors, or, "Halloween fireballs," started Nov. 5 and peaks on Monday, as the moon diminishes in brightness each night.  Ten to 15 yellow-orange meteors may appear per hour each night and appear to move very slowly, according to Space.…

Banned Books Week is held annually during the last week of Sept. (Sept. 30-Oct. 6, 2012). The week is an occasion for libraries and bookstores across the U.S. to help folks realize just how real and ongoing a problem censorship is. The Oswego Public Library has displays at both campuses of additional information about Banned Books Week along with more popular titles for both youth and adult. The Oswego campus has an interactive display where visitors can look through little peekholes and see various banned …

This article is misleading. These books aren't banned at all- you can buy all of them you want. What you confuse with 'banning' is when a local library or school decides that a particular book isn't demanded by the majority of its patrons. Your idea of being 'banned' means that you can't force a taxpayer subsidized entity to pay for your filth. How about if we quote some of the controversial …   more ›
