Vote for Montgomery Patch's Person of the Year

We received five nominations for our inaugural Person of the Year honor. Now it's time to vote for a winner. Voting runs through Friday, Dec. 30, at 5 p.m.

We asked you for your nominations, and you came through. Now it’s time to vote for Montgomery Patch’s Person of the Year.

We have five nominees for this inaugural honor, all of whom were suggested by members of the community. Below, you’ll find our poll, where you can vote for the person you think is most deserving of the award. Voting will remain open through 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, with the winner announced the following week here on Patch.

Thanks very much for taking the time to vote. And now, your nominees for the First Annual Montgomery Patch Person of the Year:

  • Clarence Bark. Clarence is a World War II veteran who just retired from the Montgomery Plan Commission after 32 years of service. He’s a walking history of Montgomery, and this year served as Grand Marshal of the Montgomery Fest parade.
  • Melanie Doherty. Melanie is active in a number of community organizations. She serves as the vice president of the Allen Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization, and volunteers often with Community Christian Church. And she is always looking for ways to cheer people up, including baking them treats.
  • Mike Gonzalez. Mike is a frequent volunteer with Boulder Hill Elementary School, but he goes beyond that: he helps fund visits from authors through grants provided by his company.
  • Herschel Luckinbill. Herschel is a veteran who tirelessly gives back to his fellow vets every day. He works with Honor Flight Chicago, helping to bring veterans on free flights to Washington, D.C., and he also helps organize the bi-weekly veterans breakfast at Grandma’s Table. This year, he helped put together a Day of Honor for local veterans at East Aurora High School.
  • Charlie Mayton. Charlie works with both a local Cub Scout pack and a local Boy Scout troop. He’s Cubmaster for the former, and assistant Scoutmaster for the latter, and he was nominated for his years of dedication, and for being a good role model. Charlie also volunteers his DJ services for school dances and movie nights.

Remember, you have until Friday at 5 p.m., so get to voting!

This poll needs to be checked to see if this is accurate due to there is one in this poll who has almost more votes than voted for all the trustee canidates in last springs trustee election.

We've looked into it, and it's not a glitch. Charlie asked for support in this poll on Facebook, and his family and friends passed the link around for days. The numbers show a significant increase in page views on this story over the past few days. We didn't stipulate that you could only vote once, either, although the system makes it harder to vote multiple times. Basically, Charlie asked people to vote for him, and they did, so he won fair and square. Congrats, Charlie!
