Bald eagles took up residence along Route 25 in Oswego on Saturday. Photo by Susie Diaz, cropped by Natalie Stevens.

Bald Eagles descended upon Oswego this Saturday.

Photographers spotted them on Route 25 just south of Boulder Hill Pass, sitting up in a tree above some lounging geese.

One reader on the Oswego Facebook page said she saw 12 of them along the road earlier in the morning.

If you take a shot of the eagles, feel free to upload it here.

I'm excited about the eagles being in town but also worried. They are very distracting if you're trying to drive along that stretch of road on Rt. 25. Everyone be careful and keep your eyes on the road, and not in the trees. Also, lots of cars are pulling onto the sides of the road with people walking along the edge of the road. It's wonderful that we have such a spectacular group of eagles in Oswego!

We have friends that live in Yorkville down Eldemain Road. They have been in their back yard for 2 years now. They are incredable creatures. They will go after smaller animals like cats and dogs, they don't know the difference from pets or a wild rabbit. So if you live in the area where the Eagles are, keep pets inside or stay out with them. It is breathtaking to see them in person though, simply majestic.

I say, park your car at Violet Patch and walk the path so you can stand and watch the eagles safely. The exercise is wonderful and you don't have to hurry, because there is a car behind you.

I cruised from Yorkville to Montgomery on Saturday and saw 39 of them. 10 or so years ago I was thrilled to see one in that same stretch. If it weren't so darn cold out I'd take a canoe trip through this stretch.

You saw 39 Bald Eagles? Or were they geese?

There were thousands of geese and ducks. I know what a goose looks like. Friday I took that drive and stopped counting at 20. Saturday I decided to be more OCD about it. I live a half mile down from the Yorkville dam. In that stretch alone there were seven. Everyone sticks to Route 25, but if you follow other roads along the river you'll see many more. There are a lot of hawks around too and blue herons. And no, driving and counting birds is no big deal.

Ken that's amazing! I have been seeing them off River Road in Plano and along the Fox west of Silver Springs since we moved here 6yrs ago. Awesome that they are making their way back here in greater numbers!

If you were counting 39 while you were driving, I can see how that would be dangerous!

I don't know about 39 of them, but I have seen about a dozen. There are also a CRAZY number of hawks everywhere! They are quite large sometimes, maybe you saw some of them.

I forwarded this to a friend who took pictures of 9 of them down by the river in Yorkville Friday. They were swooping out of the tree and grabbing fish and going back in the tree to eat them.

The large "hawks" you're seeing are adolescent bald eagles. They acquire their distinctive white heads and tails at about 2 or 3 years. With that in mind, 39 is a believable number. They're everywhere between boulder hill pass and downtown oswego. It's remarkable!

My family and I pulled over off of 25 and spotted about 9 of them. It was great. My son didn't want to leave. They were catching fish and "falling" from overworked tree branches as more than one tried to gain occupancy. It is nice to see these large and beautiful birds of prey in such numbers.

Friends are reporting seeing eagles all the way up to Elgin, but they are a bit jealous that there are so many of them down this way.

I remeber when I was a kid you would see a flock of Canadian Geese flying in formation heading south, not that common. Now they're a scourge. Try walking your dog through Hudson Park! They crap all over the sidewalks to where you have to take your dog for a "carry". Hope this doesn't happen to eagles. I don't believe they have any know predators. I also hope they don't become coyotes killing our pets.
