Sheriff: 76 Tickets in Holiday Enforcement Campaign
Kendall County Sheriff's deputies wrote 76 tickets between June 22 and July 4. Here's how they broke down.
Kendall County Sheriff’s deputies handed out 76 tickets during a 13-day period of stepped-up enforcement around the July 4 holiday.
The campaign ran from June 22 to July 4. It resulted in a pair of drunken driving charges, and 62 citations for not wearing a seatbelt, among other charges.
Here’s how the citations broke down:
- 62 for not wearing a seatbelt
- 7 for driving without insurance
- 2 for drunken driving
- 2 for not having a valid registration
- 1 for failing to secure a child
- 1 for not having a valid driver’s license
- 1 for driving on a suspended license
The campaign was funded through a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

62 instances of protecting people from their own stupidity(seatbelts) and texting and driving wasn't touched? One of the largest problems on the roads and we continuously turn a blind eye to it.
Please stop worrying about idiots not wearing their seatbelt and actually protect us from those who think it's a good idea to tweet/text/whateverthehecktheyaredoing and driving.

What a waste of police and man power....while I don't believe in over policing at all, we have serious issues with people with road rage etc and our biggest concern is with people that want to commit suicide for not wearing a seat belt. Give me a break.

Rant all you want about seat belts, but it is costly to the general public when someone is injured in a car accident. It is a simple thing to do in order to walk away from a collision. I think an unrestrained child should come with a higher penalty. My grand children as young as 3 don't even think about it, they get in their chair and buckle up. They are protected again for me to enjoy them. BUCKLE UP, just like any other, it is the law that we have accepted by ballot.

Does it make sense to wear a seat belt? - Yes.
Is it a crime not to wear one? - No.
If I drive to the store and back without a seatbelt no one has been victimized.
