Rt. 30 Speeders Target of Next Wednesday's Awareness Day
The primary emphasis of Speed Awareness Day will be the enforcement of laws associated with the posted speed limits along Route 30.
Local police departments are asking drivers to help make the roads safer for themselves, other motorists and pedestrians by always obeying the speed when travelling on Route 30.
During the Speed Awareness Day set for Wednesday, Aug. 8, more than a dozen police departments will be out in force along Route 30 to educate motorists through both enforcement and education.
The event is held in conjunction with Families Against Chronic Excessive Speeding, a nonprofit group dedicated to educating the public to the dangers of speeding.
Participating police departments include:
- Crest Hill Police Department
- Illinois State Police Department
- Joliet Police Department
- Kendall County Sheriff’s Department
- Montgomery Police Department
- Oswego Police Department
- Plainfield Police Department
- Will County Sheriff’s Department
The primary emphasis of Speed Awareness Day will be the enforcement of laws associated with the posted speed limits along Route 30. A secondary emphasis will be placed on commercial motor vehicle enforcement along with enforcement of the laws associated with highway railroad grade crossings in close proximity to Route 30.

In other words they need money. So we will spend a $100,000.00 in salary’s & overhead of the tax payers money, so we can raise money & justify our bloated police departments. Maybe we need an organization called "Families against Chronic Excessive CountyTaxes." Let’s see how fast the police departments respond to that one.

Conspiracy theory again? 8 police agencies work together to address a speeding problem, and that's the best you can do? How is it that YOU would like them to address a speeding problem?

I agree with you TLC. What will one day do? How about watching it more often if it is such a problem!

So now that we know where they'll all be...we can route ourselves around it

Bloated? I talked to a cop at a gas station and he said it's not uncommon for them to be staffed with 3 or 4 people on any given shift.
What are you talking about?

Haven't like 10 people died on that road in the last few years? Don't speed and you'll be fine. Seems like that road should be enforced more closely every day anyway. I helped a motorcyclist who was bleeding in a ditch on the side of 30 about a year ago. I like the idea.

Kendall County Sheriff's office can start by patrolling the streets in Boulder Hill. You know, the largest unincorporated subdivision in the country that basically goes without police protection.
Once school starts, the kids drive slowly through the Oswego section of BH because the police are usually there. But they'll speed up dramatically once they get into the unincorporated section.

My experience with Oswego and Kendall County cops when they pulled me over was always safety related. I was respectful, as I would be to anyone I didn't know. They explained why and what I should do and let me go without a ticket. I must say, the law enforcement out here is community orientated, at least in traffic patrol.

I think it's a good idea for all these departments to conduct these enforcements. With Illinois having close to 600 vehicle deaths this year, the more police out there, the more people obey trafffic laws.

HUGO, your right I've talked with a few PPD Officers who say that they work with 4 officers a lot of the time. I don't see how this constitutes a bloated patrol division.

I admittedly have had a slight problem with speeding. But have been trying to set a good example for my kids who are about to get their drivers license. I hadn't been pulled over in years. Last year I was pulled over in Oswego and the officer was more about safety awareness and issued a warning (in the MANY times I've been pulled over this was the 1st time I wasn't issued a ticket!). I say good for them, too many people view the posted speed limit as a suggestion and drive a min of 10+MPH faster! Teen drivers are no longer the worst drivers...inexperienced yes. Adults, in my opinion are far worse!

Agreed Mom. All the way. Ill mannered, tailgating, cell phone/texting, habitual speeders (and I dont mean five over its more like 15-20 over), red light runners. Mayberry? Hardly that so called Plainfield Resident. (transplant). If this were Mayberry people would know common courtesy, have manners. They would actually obey speed limits, respect local law enforcement as well as their fellow citizens. You people that have moved here and continue to gripe about these matters can load up the giant suv and get out. Heres revelation for ya. Obey the traffic rules. Very simple.

yes, adults, worse than Rt. 30, i believe is Stewart and Ridge Rds. for speeding and driving down the center of the road, especially at peak times and on cells phones most always! never seen police on these roads, and roads so narrow, wouldn't even believe have a place to watch!

There are about 100 "Speed Kills" signs posted along Rt 30 between 127th and 135th.
