Recycle Your Electronics on Saturday
Montgomery is hosting an electronics recycling event on Saturday at the police station. A new state law prohibits placing electronic equipment in landfills.
Beginning in January 2012, electronic equipment can no longer be collected with the regular trash due to a landfill ban in Illinois. Montgomery will be offering drop-off recycling events to allow residents to dispose of electronics and other common recyclable items. The first event is from 9 a.m. to noon on Jan. 21, in front of the Police Department at 10 Civic Center Avenue.
Items that will be accepted are appliances, metal, car fluids, batteries, and all types of electronic items. Anything that plugs in will be accepted, such as: lamps, televisions, handheld mixers, computers, and VCRs. There is no charge to drop off these items. Paint, florescent light bulbs and car tires will not be accepted.
