How many millions spent in technology, and this district can't even use the same color crayon inside individual boundaries?

That was a rediculous comment.

Is there a more concise format that lists the street boundaries and/or subdivisions? I'm having a hard time reading the street names and understanding how/if we are impacted.

Jane,
The map is easier to read on the district website.

Easier to read only means bigger. It's still ridiculously ameteurish looking.

Homestead to Murphy, Why it shouldnt occur?
1) only one boundary proposal released...why not redraw all of them
2) Additional half hour in car/bus for one way that is an after school activity the district wants participation in
3) $$$$ (Gas, lower home values, dont forget time is money)
4) Health (increase stress in kids due to less time for homework/after school activites and more stressful home enviroment

Funny how it was fine for other students to be bussed directly past PrairiePoint as well as passed busses from Subdivisions who were closer to HuntClub that were going to Prairie Point. Didn't seem right, my child was on the bus a half hour more and we managed to get homework done as well as participate in school activities. There is no perfect solution, but there are logical one being presented. If you wanted more of a say, you could have chosen to participate in the committee to understand fully. And NO I am not on the committee.

Good morning; I look to the Patch for individual insights from those who subscribe to this fine tool. I would recommend that those who are interested in the recommendation the Boundary Committee will make to please attend tonight's Open Forum. It is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm at the Performing Arts Center at OEHS. Forty of your fellow residents, plus hundreds of parents representing thousands of our children professionally discussed and developed a solution that effects the least number of children, with the goal of balancing the student populations across this district. Please remember these facts, (1) our district is 68.4 square miles in size, only 1/3 developed, (2) we currently serve approximately 17,200 students within 21 buildings and (3) our Senior Class of 2012 totals 925 students, while our incoming kindergarteners total over 1,400 students, a total growth at the foundational levels of another 500 students.
This group has volunteered eight evenings at a minimum of 3 hours per, plus additional personal time to review data, drive the district, respond to hundreds of e-mails and came up with a plan to address the needs of our children. This is the single largest, most transparent committee this district has ever seen, they should be commended for their efforts and the board should recognize its work as complete and move forward to make a decision on the 27th of February.

Thanks Ron. I'm sorry that I couldn't attend the boundary meetings, as they mostly conflicted with Oswego Village Board meetings. But we'll be there tonight with two reporters and a live blog to get all the action.

@oswegoanbychoice: No, it wasn't. The district has paid several thousand dollars to a demographic firm that has the ability to make custom maps, probably within a few hours, that would look professional, and not be scribbled on, crayoned copies.
In the past, at least the last few boundary groups have presented clearly labeled maps, produced by some software they had access to. I was told by others who were on past boundary committees that administrators had the ability in the past to literally change the map colors and boundaries in the meetings, as they were being discussed so members could have a clear visual picture.
I applaud the individuals on the committee, but as far as the administration support - What progress these maps are, huh?

It was stated at previous meetings that one of the goals of this process was to provide relief to Traughber. In my opinion a quick and easy fix, especially when looking at the proposal map, would have been to take Lakewood Creek from Traughber and send them to Thompson. Then you could move Fox Chase to Traughber. It makes no sense to take the area at the extreme northwest of the district and have them travel down orchard past the fox chase attendance area all the way to Traughber. If you look at the proposal map the Fox Chase area butts up to the Traughber attendance area and the Lakewood Creek is surrounded by Thompson attendance areas. Lakewood Creek also has a greater attendance number than Fox Chase and Thompsons attendance number based on projections is going down. This would save bus ride time and gas. Why was this never even proposed? It seems to me maybe someone in the administration didn't want this proposed.
My second point is why is the committee taking such a large population cluster out of Hunt Club and putting them in Prarie Point. This is not even necessary. Hunt Club will be way under populated and Prarie Point will be way more crowded. This is why hunt club was opened in the first place so that populations would be evened out and a high tech new building wouldnt be sitting empty. I could see if the area by Hunt Club had a big population boost but this is not the case.

By the way I am unable to attend tonight's meeting but I would love if someone that is going would bring up these points to the committee. Thanks.

Oswego 2000; One of the goals of this committee was to effect the least amount of children changing schools. The answer is by no means cut and dry as you stated. There are several considerations to bus routes, proximity and existing populations. 40 residents discussed an enormous number of what ifs. I am sorry you cannot attend this eveniing. Read the blog to see what happens.

John,
As an administrator in a nearby school district I understand the need to effect the least amount of students but clearly an error was made in the past regarding these middle school boundries (just look at the map). It sounds ridiculous to keep leaving it this way just because it effects less children. Fix it now so the future will be right. it is actually pretty cut and dry. This is the main problem in education the politics and personal agendas get in the way of common sense. The drive straight down route 30 from Lakewood Creek to briarcliff is much easier than winding through Oswego to Traughber. The drive from 31 to washington from the fox Chase area is also much quicker and easier to Traughber. The population differences would also be better for the district. It would lessen the impact on Traughber in the future.
Also if the goal was truly effecting the least amount of children why would you move Morgans Crossing and Deerpath out of hunt club when no change is needed in that population area. You are taking more than 140 students out of a school with no true justified reason. So in fact you are effecting more students than needed.

They need to move Deerpath Trails and Morgan Crossing because it is not right that their friends and neighbors get to go to the school that is one mile away from all of them while they have to sit on a bus for an hour and a half away. Community schools not commuter schools!

An hour an a half away not quite. It is 4.5 miles away and takes around 15 minutes. I have driven it. Again we should be looking for whats best for the district and all the kids not our neighborhood.

An hour and a half to get to Hunt Club? Please. Are they taking a drive through the greater Fox Valley area and stopping somewhere for breakfast before they get there? Well, if MC and Deerpath Trails wanted overcrowded classrooms in their "community school", their wish may just come true. Congrats! Enjoy and good luck.

I just looked at the final map. NOT HAPPY! If I wanted my kids to go to Thompson I'd have bought a house in Boulder Hill!!! Will be fighting to stay at Traugher.
