UPDATED Police: 3-Year-Old Left in Car While Mom Went Shopping
Child found with windows cracked on 90-degree day.
UPDATED 11:10 a.m. May 25: Kendall Marlowe, spokesman with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services said the agency is investigating a case of child neglect regarding this incident. He said the child and other children are in the care of other family members. DCFS investigated another unfounded case of child neglect regarding Ackley from 2011, Marlowe said.
An Oswego woman has been charged with endangering the life of a child after police said she left a 3-year-old in her car while shopping at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
According to Oswego police, Deanne Ackley, 45, 402 Fayette Drive, went shopping in the 500 block of Fifth Street and was gone for at least 25 minutes. When police arrived on the scene they found the windows to the car cracked, the doors unlocked and the child screaming. Temperatures Thursday hit the 90 degree mark, and the car was very warm, police said.
The Department of Children and Family Services was contacted, police said.

This makes me so angry!! I see situations similar to this all the time and find it so stupid!!! These poor kids should be taken away from parents that committee this selfish after...sorry for being brutally honest. With all the dangers and crazy people out there, there is no readon, justification or excuse for leaving ur child in a car unattended for even a second. Glad this is being investigated!! Bless that lil one glad they r ok and safe. Good job whoevet called.

Wow someone needs a refresher course on how to have a child and care for it. WTH hell lady were you thinking. and the doors were even unlocked. which means someone could have taken your child. But since you did this maybe someone should have take your child,

I wouldn't have left my dog in an unattended car on such a warm day let alone a child; and in an unlocked? I know that the goal of DCFS is to keep children with their parents but if a mother doesn't know at 45 that this is a bad idea then I don't think she will ever know or care.

The kids are at home! So whose care are they in? Really? Does DCFS protect children? These are the programs that need funded so that they can actually protect children.

oswegomom - do you mean the kids are at the home with their mother (and not with family as reported by DCFS?) That is VERY concerning. The little one could easily have died in that car during the horrendous heat we had this weekend.
I can only inagine the care this child and its siblings receive at home, behind closed doors and out of the public eye from a "mother" who would leave such a small one alone on a boiling hot day in an unlocked car where any stranger could have grabbed them. Unfit to parent is an understatement.
