The puppies came out to play on Saturday at Central Bark Doggy Day Care in Oswego for the 2013 Puppy Bowl Fundraiser. The annual event helps raise funds and donations for local animal rescue groups. This year’s rescues included Angels on Wheels Animal Rescue, Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary, and Adopt-A-Husky, Inc.

The event featured booths with local pet businesses, a raffle, bake sale, dog nail trims and baths, a pet photographer, and much more. The main attraction was the Puppy Bowl itself, which took place on a tiny football field. The puppies ran and played, scoring touchdowns by carrying a football toy to the end zone. The halftime show featured a demonstration from Mare Potts of Flydogs Training in Oswego.

The entry fee for the event was one item from the rescue group wish list per person. These items included dog and cat food, pet supplies, collars and leashes, cleaning supplies, and more. Along with receiving these items, the rescues also received all of the money raised from the sale of raffle tickets and bake sale items. In total, this year’s event raised about $3,000 in cash and donations.

Central Bark also hosts other annual fundraisers, including a dog wash in the summer and a “Howl-o-ween” party in October. You can find out more information by visiting their fundraising page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/OswegoAnimalRescueEvents

I had the opportunity to participant in the bake sale and volunteer at the Registration/Tickets. It was a pleasure to work and spend time with Central Bark's owner, Patti Miller, her staff and other volunteer's who were wonderful folks. I'd like to also commend the younger folks that also volunteered and helped us up front -- they were kind, gracious and respectful. Really awesome people all the way around. Would love to volunteer again in the future. Central Bark is the place to be !!!

It looks like a cute event but I just have to comment about these pet stories on Patch. Why is it that there is almost always 3 or 4 pet stories on the front page? It kind of takes away from Patch being a serious news source when there is clearly a heavy pet agenda going on by whoever publishes these articles.

I can't believe that there is that much 'pet' news as to make that a priority over all the other stories that are out there.
