New Park Coming to Montgomery's West Side

The Fox Valley Park District has approved a contract to build Blackberry Crossing West Park south of Route 30. It will be open this fall.

Not only will Montgomery’s west side see an expansion of Stuart Sports Complex this year, but now a new park as well.

The Fox Valley Park District announced plans on Monday to build a new park in the Blackberry Crossing West subdivision. The new four-acre park – named after the subdivision – will be constructed on open space south of Route 30 and bordered by Troon Drive and Gordon Road.

The new park will feature an all-ages playground, a picnic shelter, an informal ball field with a backstop and a basketball half-court. It will also border a retention pond for fishing, and an existing pathway, according to Jeff Long, public relations manager with the Park District.

Last week, the Park District Board awarded a $250,000 contract for Blackberry Crossing West Park to Kee Construction of Chicago. The plan is to have the new park open by the fall, Long said.

The new park is part of a longer-term project approved by referendum in 2008. Called the Open Space Park and Recreation Investment Plan, it gave Fox Valley $44.8 million to spend on new parks and recreation centers – like the Stuart Sports Complex expansion – across the district.
