Montgomery Economic Development Corporation Celebrates 10 Years

The Village of Montgomery is pleased to recognize the 10 year anniversary of independent economic development from the Montgomery Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).

The MEDC was started in 2003 with Village funding to promote the growth and strategic development of Montgomery.

“It is great to see so many different businesses and organizations working together in the form of the MEDC,” said Assistant Village Administrator Jamie Ludovic. “It has complemented this community in a crucial way.”

Since the inception of the organization, the business community has been strengthened by the presence of an economic development nonprofit.

“Having an independent economic development corporation is a huge benefit to this community,” said Charlene Coulombe-Fiore, current executive director of the MEDC. “We are so proud to celebrate 10 years in the Village and to look back on what developments have been secured by MEDC efforts.”

In the past decade, the MEDC has been integral in attracting and retaining businesses such as Walmart and Planet Fitness. Fostering a supportive and welcoming business community is a major element of the MEDC’s role in Montgomery.  

The MEDC has also influenced other projects within the community, such as the Orchard Road widening project and the Stuart Sports Complex.

“County Board member Jesse Vasquez was one of our lead lobbyists who took letters and helped us all at the County level [to] get the Orchard Road expansion moved up,” Coulombe-Fiore said.

As the MEDC moves forward to make more brick-and-mortar community improvements, it is also expanding its recruitment, retention and advertising efforts via the Internet.

“I’ve worked to use the Web as a tool for the MEDC,” Coulombe-Fiore said. “We are utilizing news blasts, Facebook and other methods of staying in contact with people.”

As the MEDC moves forward, Village leadership says it wants to not only reflect on a positive decade of development, but also commit to continue working with the MEDC in the future.

“The MEDC is such a great resource for Montgomery,” said Village President-Elect Matt Brolley. “We hope to maintain a close relationship with them to help the business community.”
