Montgomery Community Development Wants to Hear from You
The Village was the recipient of a $100,000 grant to be used for comprehensive planning and will begin the process this spring.
The Village of Montgomery Community Development Department seeks to engage residents this year with a public input component of the Village’s comprehensive planning process and increased code enforcement education.
“Interaction with citizens is crucial,” said Assistant Village Administrator Jamie Ludovic, head of the Community Development Department. “The comprehensive plan and code enforcement are two great opportunities to get more input.”
The Village was the recipient of a $100,000 grant to be used for comprehensive planning and will begin the process this spring. Public input serves as a major component of the planning methods.
“We want to focus on engaging residents to help us keep Montgomery a great community,” Ludovic said. “This year, we will be looking at residents to provide direction for the future growth of this community.”
The Village of Montgomery, along with planning contractor Houseal Lavigne, will gather public input throughout the comprehensive plan design process with a variety of meetings and surveys. Citizen participation is critical to Montgomery’s method. Exponential population increase over the past decade means the majority of current Montgomery residents didn’t have the chance to give input on the previous plan.
Additionally, code enforcement personnel will tackle public information initiatives that aim to inform residents about data on foreclosed/vacant homes and recurring issues regarding codes within Montgomery.
Village staff members plan to aggressively utilize the Montgomery website and social media accounts to reach citizens and business owners. The Village will also utilize the monthly senior luncheons at Village Hall to increase resident awareness.
In order to remain accountable to the community during these efforts, the Community Development Department will also be initiating opportunities for resident feedback.
“Customer service is a huge element of this department,” Ludovic said. “We want to involve residents in a dialogue, especially as we roll out these new engagement efforts.”
