McInerney, Waibel Out as Athletic Directors

Board approves transfers to teaching roles for both OHS, OEHS ADs.

Oswego High School's Steve McInerney has resigned his duties as athletic director effective in the 2012-13 school year, according to the Oswego District 308 personnel report approved by the school board Monday night.

McInerney will be transferred into the position of physical education/driver’s education teacher at the school, the report said.

"I'm stepping down because I want to focus on my family," said the father of three. "Going in to a teaching position allows me to do that."

Laura Waibel, athletic director at Oswego East High School, is also leaving her post and has accepted a transfer as the school science department chair and science teacher, the report shows. That move also is effective next school year.

McInerney and Waibel both were hired as athletic directors in 2006.

Editor's note: This story has been updated to more accurately reflect the reason for Steve McInerney's job transfer.

Well lookee here, two more members of the administration leaving their posts. Is the timing coincidence? Is McInerney offering a face-saving explanation? Is it past due for both of these to be given new assignments?

So many questions left unanswered from 308 lately.

Unanswered questions is right. He didn't resign, he was forced to leave. Also it is said that he has to be placed in another department at the high school. WHY? he didn't do his job in the first place so why do we trust him to do another. That doesn't that take away the problem, it just moves it to another department. How can he do a job when he never comes to work. I would love to see attendance record...
He never shows up to games or events unless he knows the reporters are there to take his picture. He has mis managed money and has created a bad rep for our school, why do we keep people like this around? Please save the taxpayers money!

I would like to chime in. I have in the past year corresponded with both AD's and found that they were both extremely helpful and very professional. I wish them nothing but the best for the future and thank them for the work they have done both at Oswego East and Oswego.
