Look Up Boy Scout Leaders Expelled in Illinois
Almost 300 Illinois records are included in the Boy Scouts of America's once-secret "perversion files." Search for your town or troop number.
- October 20, 2012
Patch's searchable database allows you to search by cities in Illinois. Information gathered by the Los Angeles Times shows the leaders of the Boy Scouts of America who were expelled between 1947 and 2005 on suspicions or confirmation of sexual abuse.
If a troop is listed, a case file exists. At this time, not all case files are available online. As new documents become available, Patch will update this database.

I was involved in Scouting for over 26 years. Never, and I mean never did I have an incident involving a child or a young adult. Millions and millions of kids benifited from scouting and learned many useful tools that they carried into adulthood. These so called "Files" will cause cast a dark shadow upon the whole scouting movement. Because of a few demented individuals the entire scouting community will be blamed.

Scoops007, although I hear you and agree, the purpose of the whole secret file thing was the operative word "secret". The vast majority of people walk around with their heads in the sand thinking that things like this don't happen around here. Well, they do. We used to think JFK was killed by a lone crazed gunman but 40 years later we're learning there was more to it. Thing is, the files should be outted to educate the naive mom and dad that some folks (yes, maybe less than 1%) get into these boys organizations to satisfy their own agendas. But, I don't about you, if I was the kid or kids being abused by this 1%er I still wouldn't feel any less violated. And to add insult to injury that it was covered up to save the face of the organization is even more bogus. It would have behooved the organization to out the bad seed, prosecute, and humiliate them publicly rather than hide it. Like the Catholic Church. Deception only weaves a tangled web. Most importantly, as it is my practice, I don't put my child in the hands of strangers willy nilly. I'm forever vigilant of that 1%er stalking out the wounded gazelle....and just about every organization has them. So, all I am saying is....if you are going to let your kid camp out in the woods with a bunch of grown men, well, you darn well better know who those men are,and ask some questions.
One mans opinion

Or instead of asking questions ... go camping with your son.
My dad was involved with me through my entire scouting career. I intend to be apart of my son's scouting journey. Does it 100% remove the threat of him being exposed to someone that found a way to beat the system? No ..... but the odds are a hell of a lot better than me sending him out there alone.

A few demented individuals? There are hundreds that the Boy Scouts protected from police!

Guys - I agree parental involvement is always best. But remember there are kids out there who's parents have either passed away, cannot get out of work, or disabilities etc. So don't forget to look out for some of the other members of the troop. Get to know every adult in the troop. thanks
