Local Lawn Service Looking for Others to Help WWII Veterans
Rick Jacobsen of Jacobsen Lawn Service is hoping other area service-based companies come forward and “Adopt a Vet.”
It might be hard to start thinking of mowing your lawn and weeding in this weather, but Oswego resident and business owner Rick Jacobsen is thinking about just that as well as how he can help others.
Last year Jacobsen, along with Herschel Luckinbill, a Navy and Vietnam veteran, created the “Adopt a Vet” program where the two worked to find lawn service providers in the Oswego area to help out WWII vets with their lawn upkeep during the spring and summer months.
Jacobsen, who owns Jacobsen Lawn Service, “adopted” WWII veteran Clarence Bark and helped him with his lawn for the year.
“I want to help out,” said Jacobsen. “I don’t expect everyone to do what I do, but a bunch of little things together equal a lot.”
Right now Jacobsen is looking for now just fellow lawn service companies to help, but for all services from plumbing to heating and cooling to cleaning services. He's hoping to have about 10 companies.
“These vets have done so much for us. We can do this for them,” said Jacobsen.
Right now a list of veterans that could use an additional assist is being compiled.
For any local company that would be interested in lending a hand to the Adopt a Vet project they are asked to contact Rick Jacbobsen, who can be reached at rick@jacobsenlawn.com or 630-554-3868.

Rick does a wonderful job, and being a part of the Fox Valley Veterans Breakfast Club myself, I hope others will take Herschel and Rick up on helping out the Veterans that need things do. The Fox Valley Breakfast Club meets every other Thursday Morning 7am at Grandma's Table in the Banquet room. It is located on Douglas Rd in Montgomery right across from the Walgreens.
Next meeting is on February 28th. and then meets 2 weeks after that on March 14th and then again on March 28th and continues every 2 weeks until the end of the year 2013 .So if you know any Veterans, or would just like to stop by, and spend a morning with some Veterans, this is the place to be.
Hope to see some new faces next week.
