What is All the Fuss About?
There are a number of theories and predictions that call for earth’s demise on Dec. 21, 2012. They include:
- The ending of the Mayan calendar – The Mayans, according to a Sarasota Patch article, kept three separate calendars. The “long calendar” ends on Dec. 21. Some say this constitutes a Doomsday prediction; many do not.
- Nostradamus – That famed French seer from the 1500s has been credited with predicting several end-of-the-world scenarios that some believe will take place in 2012. The website December212012.com points to the potential sparking of World War III on this date.
- The collision of Earth and the supposed planet Nibiru – This supposed space catastrophe was initially predicted to strike in 2003. The planet in question was supposedly discovered by the Sumerians, according to NASA. When the world didn’t end in 2003, the date was moved to December 2012 for the deadly collision with earth.
What are the Experts Saying?
The intrigue created by multiple end-of-the-world predictions has made many scholars and even NASA stand up to make statements debunking the claims. From professors at Tampa Bay’s own New College to the scientific minds at NASA, they’re all saying the same thing: Go ahead and pay that mortgage bill and wrap those holiday presents.
In regard to the ending of the Mayan calendar, New College’s Gabrielle Vail says this, according to Sarasota Patch:
There are many misconceptions about the Mayans. If you look at their calendar alone, the Mayans kept three calendars. The one that has prompted the end of the world predictions was their "long count calendar" — a 5,125 year calendar. The calendar began August 11, 3114 B.C. and ends Dec. 21, 2012.
She said the Mayans wrote about dates beyond Dec. 21, 2012 "well, well into the future, trillions of years." They also wrote about dates before the 5,125 year calendar began.
Here’s what NASA has to say about all of the collective Doomsday prophesies:
The world will not end in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.

The only thing ridiculous is just how many stupid ignorant people there are who know absolutely nothing about the Mayan calendar, it's actual use and purpose, and how the time cycles are applied ... or more appropriately WHY. There is a very real and very significant purpose for the Mayan calendar being setup the way that it is setup and I have traveled all over the southwestern USA, Central, and South America connecting many of the bits to those puzzle pieces. That said, the calendar has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the end of the world and the Mayans never said any such thing either! What you have is a large number of people today now who had absolutely no idea what they were looking at, heard the calendar was going to end (that's actually incorrect by the way -- it's not) and then assumed an "end to the calendar meant the end of the world" (a bad assumption on top of wrong information). To complicate matters further, many of those same people have taken other things said by the early Mayan people completely out of context with no understanding what they were really talking about and applying those things further to "end of the world" context which is wrong.
There is indeed something very significant and very profound about Dec 21, 2012 that has to do more with a very impressive understanding of astronomy by the the early Mayan people that you would not have expected but it's nothing to do with the end of the world --- sorry to burst bubbles.

Contrary to what you said, the computers **DID** crash on New Years 2000!
Thanks to the combined efforts of tens of thousands of computer programmers worldwide, a much larger problem was indeed avoided but contrary to popular belief, it did not go off without a hitch - what still happened was bad, very bad in fact but fortunately avoided cataclysmic. Had the programmers not done all they did, what would have happened would of been "end of the world" much worse - this I do know and have seen first hand. Instead of praising the efforts of the programmers, the press chose to downplay and not report what had happened and made the programmers out as a scam just trying to make money, all along deliberately failing to report the real news of all the failures in places which did not get updates in time. Some power grids did go offline but that was the least of the issues. The military ended up with empty food warehouses expiring food meant for troops and ordering food destroyed that was still good and not expired, a number of companies reported their bank accounts emptied or their home mortgages a century past due, miscellaneous data entry and computer errors popped up in thousands of companies around the world, a few commercial ships had problems with their navigation and communication systems, pumps turned off at the wrong times and much more. Each of these Y2K events were shoved in the back of newspapers while the front headlines all read "Nothing happened with Y2K"

While they have a few interjected bible quotes on a few still frames, the videos are basically 99.9% compilations of all the news clips from around the world on a monthly basis from first the whole year 2011 at once and then monthly for 2012 and what you see there might be enlightening (and shocking since most people probably don't realize exactly what all has been happening in the world recently)

Right now this moment, there is no eminent immediate threats to the planet.
Contrary to popular misconception, the Mayan calendar is **NOT** going to end and they never said anything about it being the end of the world. It's just the end of the long count cycle and a new one starts, kind of like what happened similar when we tripped over from the 1900's to the 2000's. Yes, we stopped writing "1" as the first digit that had been used for nearly two thousand years but our calendar didn't stop, we just went on to a new digit. The Mayan calendar system is much more complicated but essentially the very same concept.
As for the Bible, unlike the Mayans, it does prophesy doom and gloom but while some things have come to pass already, there is still much more that needs be done before the end in those prophesies so not going to happen Dec 21, 2012.
Nostradamus, I'm not entirely certain he's actually gotten a date right on anything. Just a fair amount of really good guesses that could fall in the coincidence range.
The point is you're right ... enjoy life, world isn't coming to an end ... not yet anyway.

Much of my current life really started after I died.
Just for the record, I'm one of those rare people who have been dead and come back from the grave again after no heartbeat, no brain activity, deader than dead so you could say in a certain way I'm living on "borrowed time".
In my case unfortunately I have died more than once on different occasions and some of those where in ways I would not wish upon my worst enemy.
It does change one's perspective and I agree with your statement to "do good deeds in every walk of life" as there are no guarantees in life that when your time comes, you'll be able to do what I have done and keep coming back again.

Just for the record, our calendar system was established long after and apart and
the people who created the early Mayan calendar had no concept or knowledge of
the current Julian calendar in use today so 2012 would be meaningless to them.
It's based upon specific motions of the galaxy, planets, celestial bodies moving in space, and upon extended activity cycles of the sun --- IE: astronomical sciences.
We have a bit of a rare situation happening now not just within our solar system but across the galaxy itself and that is the larger part of what the Mayan calendar cycle change is about and converted to our calendar would be 12/21/2012.

The Mayans clearly understood mathematics, physics, and astronomy.
Exactly what from these educated sciences would tell them that the Spaniards were coming?
They could tell you exactly when the moon and stars would be in a certain position and when the sun and gravitational forces might have the greatest impact on tides and maybe even perhaps possibly earth tectonic stress which all is an amazing feat itself but even the most advanced skills and knowledge has it's limits.
However, to discount them on the basis of "oh they didn't predict the Spanish coming" shows you yourself have very little understanding of the Mayan people.

The Bible and the Qur'an both have their own take on this concept but it actually doesn't mean what most of the people and also religious leaders think it means.
I spent many, many years researching this very topic and that research led me literally across the world delving into all sorts of topics ranging from ancient early texts, etymology, archeology, history, and anthropology and after all of that I discovered what was really being discussed in those passages and more than that more importantly, the reason why it was actually said!
That whole concept where only God knows the time of the end events very much has been sorely misunderstood for thousands of years but it unfortunately also forms one of the core belief basis points of prophesy in many religions.
Ironically, the statements of those religious texts do not mean what people think!

Part of the different sized interconnected overlapping cycles in the Mayan calendar has to do with larger astronomical alignments that already began several years ago back in 2008 and won't actually end until 2016.
December 21, 2012 could be considered a strong key point date as the peak of those alignments and the centerpiece where the larger long count cycle also rolls over but it's only one specific point in a much larger astronomical alignment picture and it will take several years before we are entirely out of those alignments.

We do not decide natures fate, but we can decide our choices. If there is any sign of the world coming to an end through natural disaster we have the scientifc knowledge of backing that statement. I think the most important thing we tend to forget about as the human race is the people around us that makes this life worth living for. Tim, you clearly failed to read the entire chapter of the passage you quoted so that comment you made about "picking and choosing" verses applies to yourself. Had you actually read the full passage, you might of re-considered using this in example to the larger point you were trying to make.
Second, the assumption made as you quoted inferring that the Bible's statements are false because it has been "thousands of years" is a very bad assumption. I would take guess you posted this because of the phrase "some who are standing here will not taste death" though the complete irony is that statement is indeed correct and was what was written was written precisely as it was meant to say even to the bewilderment of many Christians who also like yourself can't comprehend that passage really meaning exactly as it was said. The irony is someone in the conversation being described in that passage is actually still alive after very nearly 2,000 years and believe it or not, yes we do have a real life 'Highlander' type situation going on in the world today at least with regard to one specific person and no that person is not "Jesus". It took me 27 years of research to track this person down but I actually found them, they should of left a more inconspicuous trail than they did --- they do now though.
You are a skeptic, I appreciate that. Some of the biggest discoveries I've uncovered in my lifetime have been researching things I myself didn't believe!

Now, the Mayans have a calendar. That is all. They had no prophecies about the end of the world, any more than you think the world ends at the end of each December of your calendar. No scientist has ever said the Mayans have even had such a prophecy, much less that it is wrong.
And no, nobody thinks we went from caves to pyramids in a single year. In fact, no educated person thinks we were even cavemen. Those are old cartoons you are thinking about, not higher education.
Now faith, has no requirement of being 'true' or 'false'. You believe things on faith because someone told you to, and are told not to question it. Either you believe the tenants, or you don't. Those are the requirements for whatever faith you belong to. There is no such thing as Presbyterian Jews. Based on whichever set of tenants you accept on faith without question, determines which one you are.

Because the same procedures and concepts that allow you to use that electronic magic box to post your thoughts for the entire world to read within seconds, are used to arrive at the conclusions I hold. You don't get to pick and choose which ones you accept based on 'belief', or get a pass with the cop-out of thinking that saying you have an open mind somehow makes you sound accommodating. Your computer/tablet/phone works for the same reasons that people can state with absolute certainty that the Myans have no such prophecy of an apocalypse in 2012.

In our religion (Islam), we believe if we knew the end of world, so we could do our bad things and crimes and according to becoming to the end of the world, we became so nice people by doing nice works! If it was true, then where is the God Justice? We just cheat on ourselves by this way! None knows about the end of the world and judgment day! So do not listen tho this craps. I think human being is gonna distinct themselves by destroying humanity, wildlife and other global warnings which include all of the world (like wars, disease, nuclear experiment and so on). At this condition of global financial crisis, we just need to be calm down and not to in inflame more problems for other ones! Please respect to humanity.

I am so sick and tired of all hype on December 21st 2012. I don't understand it. I
know that the Myan calendar cycle ends, but that isn't the end of anything. Get
real! Nibiru is not real, it's a fictional planet that people started to talk about, there
