If you’re looking for a deal, Montgomery is the place to be this weekend.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the village’s fifth annual community garage sale will essentially turn Montgomery into a bargain hunter’s paradise. A total of 71 homes will participate this year, on both sides of the Fox River.

That’s down from the 125 garage sale sites last year, but it’s still plenty of treasure to pick through. With 25 of those homes east of Route 31 and the other 46 west of it, the sale covers plenty of ground as well.

You’ll find the most homes participating in Lakewood Creek this year – 11 of them. Foxmoor is right behind with 10. Other west side subdivisions with garage sales include Fairfield Way, Lakewood Creek West, Blackberry Crossing, Blackberry Crossing West, Balmorea, Huntington Chase, Montgomery Crossings, Saratoga Springs and Blackberry Heights, with one home on Aucutt Road participating as well.

Parkview, Arbor Ridge, Seasons Ridge, Boulder Hill and Old Town/downtown residents will join in on the east side.

All 71 homeowners paid $10 to participate this year, and to have their names and addresses included on the map, available at Village Hall, 200 N. River St., and on the village website.

The community garage sale is sponsored by Montgomery’s historic preservation commission, and all money collected will go to preserving Settlers Cottage. The village’s oldest structure, Settlers Cottage was built around 1840 by Montgomery’s founder, Daniel Gray. It was slated for the wrecking ball in 2003, but a group of preservationists convinced the village to save it.

It now serves as a museum, and the historic preservation commission has been tasked with funding its upkeep and restoration.

Settlers Cottage will be open the second Tuesday and the third Sunday of each month this summer, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., as well as during Montgomery Fest, held during the second weekend in August.
