Four District 308 elementary schools were recently honored by the Illinois State Board of Education as Academic Excellence Award winners due to their exceptional performance on the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) over the last three years.
District 308 schools attaining this honor were Homestead Elementary in Aurora, Prairie Point Elementary in Oswego, The Wheatlands Elementary in Aurora and Wolf’s Crossing Elementary in Aurora. This is the fourth consecutive year The Wheatlands Elementary has received this honor, the third year for both Homestead and Prairie Point Elementary Schools, and the second year for Wolf’s Crossing.
The award is given to elementary schools in which at least 90 percent of students met or exceeded state standards in reading and math on the ISAT from 2009-2011. All 438 Academic Excellence schools also achieved Adequate Yearly Progress for the past two years.
“These Honor Roll schools continue to prove that hard work and reform efforts impact student performance. Community members can and should celebrate their local schools’ success,’’ said State Board of Education Chairman Gery J. Chico. “Behind each school’s success is an untold story of extraordinary passion and dedication on behalf of administrators, teachers, parents and students. We commend each school for its commitment to improvement and excellence.”
