Update: Plano Police Chief Says Case Is Being Treated as Missing Person, Not Kidnapping
21-year-old wheelchair bound Plano resident Corey Cann has not been seen since approximately 7 p.m. Feb. 22.
Update 7:56 p.m., Sunday
Corey Cann has been reported found safe, said Plano Police Chief Steven Eaves. Read the account here.
Update 2:10 p.m., Sunday
Plano Police Chief Steven Eaves told Patch that Corey Cann is currently being treated as a missing person by the police department.
"As of right now we're looking at a missing person. If it does become a kidnapping or abduction we will change the status," he said.
Eaves said that Cann's information was submitted to the state police.
Update 11:10 p.m., Sunday
Family and friends of Corey Cann are organizing a search at 1:15 p.m. at the Yorkville Community Christian Church, 129 Commercial Drive. Anyone who would like to help is asked to please gather there.
Update 11:40 a.m., Sunday
A family friend of Corey Cann said the missing 21-year old was kidnapped.
Beth Kolar, who is in charge of the Find Corey Cann Facebook page, said that someone reportedly saw Cann in his wheelchair in the bed of a large, light-tan pick-up truck leaving the house and headed towards Route 34.
Cann had been at home with his brother, said Kolar, and said he was expecting friends. She said the family dog became agitated when the friends, of whom the family reportedly did not know, and the brother left the room.
When he returned Corey Cann was gone.
"Corey is typically loud," said Kolar. "He'll yell that he's leaving when he heads out the door and greets everyone loudly. It's not like him to leave quietly like that."
The Plano Police Department has not confirmed any reports of a kidnapping. Patch has not been able to reach the Plano Police Department since the previous update this morning.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Plano Police Department at 630-552-3121 or by dialing 911.
Update 9:33 a.m., Sunday
The Plano Police Department has confirmed that Corey Cann, 21, has been reported missing.
He was last seen, according to the Plano Police report, in the 500 block of Hale Street, Plano. Cann was wearing a white Brookfield Zoo t-shirt and glasses.
Original post
Corey Cann of Plano went out with friends Friday night at approximately 7 p.m. and has not been seen nor heard from by his family since.
Cann has cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair. When Cann, 21, left home Friday night he was not dressed for the winter weather, a family friend said. He was clad in sweat pants and a t-shirt. He was not wearing a coat when he left.
The family said they did not know the individuals their son left with.
Family and friends are anxious to find Cann. A missing persons report has been filed with the Plano Police Department. Anyone who has information on the whereabouts of Cann, or has seen him in the last 24 hours is urged to call the Plano Police Department at 630-552-3121.

He's not a child, he's an adult. He also has a physical disability, NOT an intellectual disability. He was just as free to come and go as any other adult his age. Quit blaming the poor parents.
I'm glad Corey was found safe.

Perhaps because he is 21, and despite having cerebral palsy, is asserting his independence? Sheesh. Having cerebral palsy does not imply that he does not have "normal" (or even above average) intelligence. He probably just wanted to be a "normal" 21 year old. I hope that he returns home safely to his family, who are obviously worried about him.

Good point S. People with CP can be very smart and assertive.

Do we know anything about whether his friends were driving or he was driving? It seems a little odd to me that he went in a normal car with his wheelchair. They are heavy and usually need a car with wheelchair access.

As the parent of a 25 year old with cp, something is wrong here. Very wrong. God i hope he is found. Independence is one thing.. unless you parent a child with cp to this degree, you don't know. @S. No offense but it has nothing to do with intelligence.

In fact, since my son is extremely intelligent, he knows that it is imperative that someone knows where he is and is available should the chair malfunction or a hygiene issue occurs. God i pray this kid is found safely.

Is it possible that he could have left while he was home alone for a bit, so that is why his family had no knowledge of who he left with? Obviously this family is in pain with worry, passing judgement without all the facts is just cruel.

I too really cannot understand how the parents of a disabled child do not know who the individules are that he left with... very odd. I have an adult autistic brother and there is no way he would leave with anyone that our family knew nothing about especially their name or names. Something doesnt add up here. I pray he is ok and returns home safe soon....

Autism has nothing to do with CP. I'm sorry but it irritates me when people make "blanket" statements about people with disabilities. Each disability is as distinct as every individual. This guy may be mentally very capable and knew what he was doing.

Oy vey, here we go again. Cerebral palsy is a PHYSICAL disability, not a cognitive one. Many people with CP live very independent lives. There are teachers, attorneys, and even doctors who have CP. Having a physical disability is *not* the same as having a cognitive disability, and it does not mean you need to be under Mummy's thumb 24/7. How nice that you have an autistic brother, but that has nothing to do with this young man. His diagnosis and abilities are very, very different from your brother's.

Jms you said it beautifully. Passing judgement in a public post without firsthand knowledge and facts is cruel, and it's ignorant. The fact that this young man is missing is the issue. Period. Be supportive, spread the word, offer a positive comment, offer a prayer. Otherwise, keep it to yourself.

Corey is extremely independent and has even gone to college (SIU) by himself. This is a good family. Roxanne, Corey's mother, is a wonderful Christian woman who raised her boys as a single mother. Before you judge, you should try and walk in someone elses shoes. Until then, cut the judgment & do whatever is in your power (share on social media, print and distribute fliers, pray) to help find this beautiful soul.

What about kidnapping plain and simple!! His need to be accepted for who he is makes him extremely vulnerable to anyone at anytime. He can't even fight anyone off so the fact that he is missing without a cost or shoes tells me he didn't leave willingly!! He was taken and he needs to be found period! Him and his brother went to school with my kids and his mom is one of my best friends. As a parent you do your best and hope for the best. I am praying for Corey's safe return home!! Love you Cann family <3

Let's all be supportive of - and in prayer for - Corey, Roxanne and the rest of the family. The Cann family is well thought of in this community and I'm sure they must be sick with worry whether Corey went somewhere willingly or not! In the meantime, Let's keep reposting reminders in Facebook and any other media. If somebody has info PLEASE contact the police. SOMEBODY knows where Corey is right now. And Corey, if you're reading this, please call your mother - everyone is worried about you.

I hope he is found soon and puts your minds and hearts to rest. Periodically check with Medicare and Medicaid to see if anyone has "hijacked" him in to an institutional setting by telling him they were going to enable his independence. As a parent myself I know how difficult it is when your children are this age. You want to enable them as much as possible while still providing the support system they need. I pray your son gets in touch with you soon. Best Wishes!!

According to the Facebook page "Find Corey Cann" this is now believed to be a kidnapping. Someone saw him in his wheelchair in the back of a speeding, large tan truck headed for Rt 34. If this is accurate he could be anyplace by now. So please help the family by sharing this information with your media friends so people can be on the lookout for him.

Hi I am praying for this to be all figured out soon so the family (including Corey) may be relieved. But for now I assume the family is taking on search missions. I understand its very cold in Illinois and it is a long shot but maybe it would be a good idea to search the nearby creeks and rivers (why would he be there especially without shoes?; it's in my understanding that he is most likely under the influence of other individuals whom the family has never met before, and by those individuals not introducing themselves to the family it seems like there might be foul play afoot). Also, tomorrow morning Mrs. Roxanne should speak with the students of the school (rather than the police, a mother's instinct is best) he attends and question if they have seen him with any new characters that they aren't familiar with him being around (trust me people notice who people are hanging-out with, and if these are students from his school where they most likely met; someone would have noticed). A few other areas to check would be the parks (a creek runs right by Foli Park). I can only hope some kids have them at their pad doing what 21 year old do...

I've known Corey since 8th grade, we chatted and even had a few classes together. Whether he was kidnapped or just missing the fact is he is out there and he needs help. He's such a joy to be around! We haven't talked in years but man have I been praying and sharing for a safe return! Help Brin Corey home, don't try to knit pick at the parenting. How would you feel if your child or family member was missing!

To all of those passing judgement regarding this situation, stop! I do not know the family, nor do i live in the general area. I do know that at a time like this, questioning and judging that family will not help. Put your energy to good use, get out and help look for him. If this is not possible, say a prayer for him. Practice kindness if nothing else.

First let me clarify I was not judging. I never stated anything except the young man is disabled. I didn't say he was unintelligent. All i was asking is how can you not know where someone is that is in a wheel chair, for safety reasons only. As a mother myself I keep tabs on everyone. I wasn't bashing anyone, just trying to help uncover any ideas to help find him. You people on here rush to judgement.
