District 308 Elementary School Put on 'Soft Lockdown' Thursday
Students asked to stay in classrooms while classmate calmed.
Prairie Point Elementary School was put on a “soft lockdown” at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
According to District 308 spokeswoman Kristine Liptrot, a student began running through the halls of the school and eventually locked him or herself in a bathroom.
In order to calm the student, the school was put on “soft lockdown,” which means students were not allowed to leave their classrooms. The lockdown lasted for about 20 minutes.
No one was injured during the incident, and police were not called, Liptrot said. Dismissal of half-day kindergartners was delayed slightly by the incident, Liptrot said.

My son is a first grader at Prairie Point and came home with no stories to tell about the lockdown. For that, I am grateful. Thank you, Prairie Point staff for defusing the situation without making it a bigger deal than it needed to be. Well handled.
