Celebrate Summer at the Country Market on Sunday

The Oswegoland Park District's annual market will bring together about 40 local vendors on Main Street every Sunday through September.

We’ve all heard how important it is to shop local. Starting Sunday, you’ll have a weekly chance to put that into practice.

The Oswegoland Park District will kick off its annual summer Country Market on Sunday at 9 a.m. on Main Street. The market brings together local farmers, craftsmen and vendors, offering hand-made and naturally-grown wares.

You can get locally-grown produce, farm fresh eggs, Wisconsin cheese, home-baked bread and a wide variety of crafts from local artisans. It’s a celebration of Oswego-area farmers and business owners, according to Cori Veverka, cultural arts supervisor with the park district.

The Country Market began about 10 years ago, Veverka said, and like the produce for sale there, it grew organically. What started as a few vendors in a bank parking lot will, this year, encompass about 40 businesses, from farmers to bakers to specialty food makers to potters and jewelers.

This year, market organizers will also throw in some healthy recipes for attendees, and a cooking demonstration once a month, Veverka said.

The Market takes place outside, in the parking lot between Tripp Insurance and the American Male store on Main Street. It opens up every Sunday through September, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
