Bomb Squad Finds No Danger at Riverside Cemetery

Montgomery and Kane County police called for suspicious object, which turned out to be harmless.

If you saw Montgomery and Kane County police in Riverside Cemetery at 1120 S. Broadway Tuesday afternoon, you weren’t imagining it.

Police received a call around noon about a suspicious object that had been discovered by a resident. According to Sgt. Greg Sullivan, the object was reportedly small (around the size of a baseball) and black, and contained a stem.

Sullivan said it “appeared to be a possible explosive device.”

The Kane County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad arrived on the scene shortly thereafter, and determined that there was no danger.

The object, Sullivan said, turned out to be a decorative item that had fallen off one of the cannons on display at the cemetery.
