An armed robber stole an undisclosed amount of cash from Yorkville's Aldi store, 1610 Bridge St., Thursday night, according to Yorkville police.
A few minutes after 7 p.m. a masked man clad in camouflage clothing and construction hat demanded money from the lone cashier on duty. The perpetrator told the cashier he was armed, but did not display a weapon, Police Chief Richard Hart said Thursday night.
"He walked in and walked right up to the cashier demanding money," Hart said.
Hart said there were a number of witnesses to the incident, but said no one was hurt.
The suspect's disguise prevented witnesses from providing a clear descritption, Hart said.
The suspect took off on foot and police are combing the area looking for him. Hart said the Yorkville Police Department is being assisted by the Kendall County Sheriff's Office, the Illinois State Police and other area law enforcement agencies.
Patch will update as more information is made available.

What is wrong with people. Happy to hear that no one was hurt.
I use to send my girls into the store by themselves while I waited in the car, I stop doing that long ago for this very reason.

Typo. "Police are combing the area, locking for him".
Anyway. Does anyone know the age of the man? What he looked like?

Hey, Mark Johnson; your pals on the yorkville city council voted themselves a raise this week. Good thing you got rid of those bad people who refused to take more money from the taxpayers during this tough economy. "Save Yorkville!"
Oops, wrong thread...

I'm afraid the way the economy is going, it'll just keep getting worse. Thankfully no one was hurt.

I think the solution is for ALDI to accept credit cards like 90% of all food stores, even it they have to raise their prices a bit.

Or promote debit card use, with a % discount if used. Why should the customers have to pay because Aldis carries too much cash?

1)If the cashier was following proper cash storage protocol he made it away with less than $1000.
2) if she got fired you better believe the media would have a field day and a lawsuit would follow
3) if Aldi accepted credit cards no one would shop there, the mark up is already marginal and they don't make up for it in bulk like your heavy hitters such as Walmart. They'd be priced out of the market in a year.

Funny they should say he wasn't armed. There was a young man standing by me as we were locked in the store who said he saw a gun. The police were still talking to him after they let the rest of us leave - finally. The cashiers were handing out juice boxes and snacks. They were very apologetic that we were all stuck there. Like it was their fault . . . I'll bet the cashier, who only had a momentary lapse of composure awhile after it happened, won't be sleeping much tonight. Poor thing. There was no commotion - he just came in, demanded the money and left again. Most of the shoppers had no idea anything was wrong until they got to the front of the store and saw the police. If she had screamed or somebody had tried to be a hero, it could have been much worse.

The article says " did not display a weapon". They didn't say he wasn't armed.

In a robbery, if you say you have a weapon, you are armed.

I would think that they should have security cameras. Having a picture of his vehicle leaving the scene would be a big help.

i know the cashier - the trauma and disruption to the cashier and the cashiers life are beyond words - scares me - if anyone else wants to comment on this story - the cashier did the best possible. could anyone of you imagine being in that situation. someone could walk into your place of employment. if you work in an accountants office - demand records - get what i mean.
