Blackberry Creek watershed group to discuss protection of water resources

Blackberry Creek Watershed Coalition meeting in Elburn on October 30 is opportunity for residents to learn about efforts underway in communities surrounding the Fox River

ELBURN—Community members throughout the Blackberry Creek Watershed are invited to attend a meeting of the Blackberry Creek Watershed Coalition on October 30, 2012, to learn more about opportunities to help protect our water resources.  Participants from the Blackberry Creek Watershed planning initiative will describe their on-going activities, as well as new opportunities.  Open discussion will focus on exploring opportunities to work together to help protect the quality of the streams, lakes, wetlands, and groundwater within the Blackberry Creek Watershed, which will in turn benefit the downstream Fox River.

A watershed is the land area from which rainwater and snowmelt drains into a body of water such as a stream or lake.  The Blackberry Creek Watershed Action Plan, completed in December 2011, came together through a voluntary, collaborative public process involving local residents, organizations, businesses, representatives of governmental agencies, and other interested community members.  It outlines numerous local priorities and opportunities for protecting water quality and watershed health.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at the Blackberry Township office (43W390 Main Street Rd., Elburn) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Community members who live, work, or play in the Blackberry Creek Watershed are invited to attend and are encouraged to provide input related to community water resource protection activities and opportunities.
